2014 in review

001Happy New Year to everyone reading my blog.  It’s been fun writing it, and I hope it’s been just as enjoyable and useful for you all as well.
Before we hit 2015 the WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for multifarious.

Here’s an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 110,000 times in 2014. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 5 days for that many people to see it.

Click here to see the complete report and thanks again for reading it!  Maybe 2015 will be the year I finally get a view from Greenland!

  1. What I miss is Autotext as implemented in Trados 7. It saved far more keystrokes; mark word, press F3 to enter the translation (obviously provided such a translation exists). This had the additional advantage that one does not need to know what the translation is, although this obviously requires 1:1 translation for the selected word(s), but in this case the new Autotext (autosuggest) could be used. Would it not be possible for Autotext à la Trados 7 to be revived?
Another useful feature would be to select a Termbase entry with a double-click rather than Select term -> Right-click -> Select Insert term ternslation -> Left-click; 3 key actions rather than 4, even better would be the possibility to select from a list of entries with the entry number (such as Ctrl-3 for the third list entry).
After all, the aim is to speed-up translation by reducing the number of keystrokes
I appreciate your postings, they go some way for making up for the lack of a comprehensive manual

    1. I guess you could enter a termbase entry by typing the first letter and it’s added immediately. One click to hit enter! Maybe review this article on autosugges too… would help you I think : Ins and outs of Autosuggest. There is also an excellent manual available that was written by Mats Linder here: The Studio Manual. I think it’s better than anything I would write, we would write, or any of the other manuals that have been produced, mainly because he includes so much information from other translators with cross references to other places. Written by a translator for translators.

      1. I am increasingly using Termbase, but I find it disturbing that the Add Termbase Entry dialog always opens and needs to be closed; is there some way of adding an entry “silently”?

      2. ” enter a termbase entry by typing the first letter and it’s added immediately” – how please does this function?
