TC Recall

A visual configuration editor for Total Commander – manage your Directory Menu shortcuts and Button Bar toolbars without touching the INI or bar files.

TC Recall gives you a visual way to manage two of Total Commander’s most-used configuration areas: the Directory Menu (Ctrl+D) hotlist, and the button bar toolbars that sit across the top of your TC window.

Instead of hand-editing numbered entries in wincmd.ini or struggling with TC’s built-in editors, you get clean visual interfaces where you can add, remove, reorder, and configure everything with a few clicks. Both editors back up your files before every save and handle the TC restart for you automatically.

Directory Menu Editor

Organise your Ctrl+D folder shortcuts in a tree view. Create submenus to group related paths, add separators for clarity, and see at a glance whether your paths are still valid.

How It Works

  1. Launch TC Recall and pick a tab – Directory Menu or Button Bar.
  2. Your current configuration loads automatically from wincmd.ini or your bar files.
  3. Edit visually – add, remove, reorder, and configure items.
  4. Click Save + Restart TC – TC Recall backs up your files, writes the changes, and relaunches Total Commander with your updated configuration ready to use.

  • + Subbar action to create a new .bar file on disk, insert a subbar reference into the current bar, and add it to the dropdown at the correct position.
  • Left/Right arrow buttons for reordering within the button list.
  • Save and Restart TC workflow with automatic .bar.bak backup, matching the existing Directory Menu save behaviour.
